Our History

Our History

Our Institute was born from the desire to return to Catholics the treasures of their own history—treasures that have too often been obscured or forgotten.

The idea of founding an online school emerged after an in-person course on Church History taught by Prof. Lucas Lancaster in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Our current Director General, Matheus Godoi, was a student in this course and proposed that the program be offered online, in order to reach a wider audience. Thus, in February 2021, we launched our first online classes.

Over time, the School grew and became more structured. We formed a dedicated team, produced original documentaries, welcomed guest professors to our platform, published books, and created a scholarship program to serve priests, seminarians, and religious.

Since its foundation, more than 3,000 students have passed through our courses. Through our free classes, videos, and public content, we have reached hundreds of thousands of people, helping them rediscover the depth, continuity, and beauty of Catholic history.

We continue to pursue our mission of disseminating Catholic historical knowledge in a serious and rigorous manner. In 2026, this mission expanded internationally with the creation of the Institute of Church History in the United States. The Institute was founded to bring the same work we have been developing in Brazil to the entire world, making it accessible through the English language and serving Catholics globally.

“All of history, in a manner of speaking, proclaims that it is God who, in His providence, governs the many and perpetual movements of all mortal things, and that He, even against the will of men, directs them to the benefit of His Church.”
